It is with immense honor and gratitude that I, as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Trauma and Injury (JTI), announce an exciting milestone in our journal’s journey. JTI has recently achieved simultaneous indexing in Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI), Scopus, and PubMed Central (PMC), a rare and prestigious accomplishment. This success reflects the dedication, perseverance, and collaborative efforts of our editorial team, reviewers, authors, and the global trauma research community.
JTI was founded in 1988 as the Journal of the Korean Society of Traumatology, initially published twice a year in Korean. In 2012, the publication frequency increased to quarterly, and in 2016, the journal transitioned to English to expand its global reach. As a peer-reviewed open access journal, JTI is committed to advancing trauma research, fostering international collaboration, and improving patient outcomes.
Given the unique geopolitical situation between South and North Korea, JTI collaborates closely with the Armed Forces Medical Command and the Armed Forces Capital Hospital of Korea to integrate both civilian and military trauma research. The journal covers a broad spectrum of trauma-related disciplines, including general surgery, thoracic surgery, neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, ophthalmology, plastic surgery, ear nose and throat, urology, emergency medicine, radiology, and military trauma.
JTI has expanded its academic credibility by being indexed in prestigious databases and has experienced continuous growth in manuscript submissions with increasing diversity among contributing countries. In 2022, the journal received 82 submissions from 17 countries. In 2023, this number increased to 87 submissions from 19 countries, and in 2024, it further grew to 96 submissions from 30 different countries, demonstrating JTI’s expanding international reach. This steady rise underscores JTI’s growing reputation as a global platform for trauma research, attracting contributions from researchers worldwide.
In 2017, I was appointed as the associate editor, and in 2018, JTI was designated as a candidate journal for the Korean Citation Index (KCI). By 2020, the journal successfully secured full KCI indexing, reinforcing its credibility and influence.
Encouraged by this progress, we submitted applications for Scopus, PMC, and ESCI in November 2020. Although all three applications were initially rejected, we viewed this setback as an opportunity to further enhance our journal’s quality and international engagement.
With unwavering support from our editorial board, reviewers, and authors, we reapplied in December 2023 and achieved an extraordinary milestone: acceptance into all three indexing platforms simultaneously. This simultaneous indexing in ESCI, Scopus, and PMC is an exceptionally rare accomplishment that highlights the journal’s expanding global impact.
This achievement is not only a milestone for JTI but also a testament to the dedication of the Korean Society of Traumatology, our editorial team, reviewers, authors, and the broader trauma research community. Without the trust and contributions of many individuals, this success would not have been possible.
As we celebrate this momentous accomplishment, we remain committed to further elevating JTI’s global standing. We will continue to strive for excellence, strengthen our international collaborations, and ensure that JTI serves as a leading academic platform for trauma research worldwide.
We invite trauma specialists and researchers from around the globe to contribute their valuable research to JTI, helping us advance trauma science and improve patient outcomes.
Thank you for your continued support and dedication to JTI.
